At What Age Should My Child See the Dentist?

Although baby teeth aren’t permanent, diligent care for them is still important. Ensuring the ideal health and function of new teeth is vital to the proper development of permanent, adult teeth.

Our office is friendly and inviting, with a variety of activities and techniques to support a calming experience. Children can watch YouTube videos during treatment, and we have nitrous oxide available for extreme anxiety.

First visits help both you and your child get comfortable and familiar with the dental office environment. This initial visit sets the standard for many years to come and can help reduce the chances of developing dental anxiety or fear.

Teeth cleanings are very important for dental health. Children are at high risk for cavities during the first decade of life. Professional teeth cleanings remove plaque, prevent cavities, and help identify any existing cavities. We also use professional fluoride and sealants to add an extra layer of protection. If your child participates in rough sports or other highly physical activities, we recommend mouthguards to prevent trauma to the mouth.

Education for All Ages

The importance of thorough dental education cannot be understated. It is vital that young and old alike are coached in how to care for teeth, how to prevent cavities, and how oral health promotes overall health. Education extends far beyond brushing and flossing. Our team can also advise you on proper nutrition and ways to encourage healthy snacking.

What You Can Do

Conditions like tooth decay or gum disease can be prevented by controlling plaque, which is the primary cause of infections that lead to the need for restorations. Brush and floss at least twice a day, and be sure to see us for a professional cleaning and exam at least twice a year. The more preventive measures you take, the less need you will have for repairs, and the easier that treatment will be if you do end up needing it.

Restorative dental treatment includes a wide range of treatments such as fillings, crowns, bridges, implants, and even gum surgery and grafting. We use advanced technology to ensure the results will be durable and indistinguishable from your natural teeth.

Dr. Wagers and Dr. Bolinske offer treatments with minimally invasive techniques and a conservative approach. We strive to address overall dental health rather than only focus on a single problem. Depending on your oral health needs, your treatment plan may consist of more than one procedure. Some of our treatment options include:

Fillings: We offer composite resin, porcelain, or amalgam upon request, depending on your preference and qualifying factors.

Crowns and Bridges: These restorations are created to match your natural smile, strengthen your bite, and protect tooth roots and bone. A bridge is fixed in place by two crowns with a prosthetic tooth suspended between them to replace a missing tooth. We offer same-day CEREC® crowns with final adjustments made in our office.

Root Canals: If you have a tooth that has a compromised root, we can remove all infection and help save your natural tooth.

Dentures & Partials: When teeth are missing, we can create customized prosthetics to restore function and renew your smile. Spaces of two or three missing teeth, to an entire arch, can all be rejuvenated with dentures.

Gum Disease Treatment: Our highly skilled team performs deep cleanings to eradicate gum disease. We also offer maintenance cleanings several times per year, depending on the degree of gum disease present.

Dental Implant Restorations: Dental implants are an advanced dental solution for replacing missing teeth. These titanium roots integrate into the jaw bone to provide a sturdy, durable anchor for prosthetic teeth. Implant-supported crowns, bridges, and dentures give you a complete smile with full function.

If the tooth or fragments are clean and well-preserved, it’s possible to re-attach it to the site of trauma. After relieving discomfort, we will comprehensively treat the damaged area with the goal being the preservation of existing tooth structures. For dental trauma and toothaches, you can take pain medication and ice any swollen areas. If you call us after hours, we will get back to you as soon as possible.
